Smokey is a gentle cat who finds contentment in lazy afternoons curled up in the window, having her foster dad give her massages, chin scritches and plenty of tummy rubs. Smokey is a special girl and she needs a special home that will give her the love and attention she deserves as she lives out her senior years. Smokey has spent the last two months living in a foster home with four small dogs and other cats. She has adjusted nicely and gets along great with all of her foster siblings. 
Smokey spent her first twelve years of life with the same owner, but was surrendered to the shelter when the owner left for college. Not only did Smokey have to adjust to life in a completely different environment, but she also had to fight off a very bad upper respiratory infection and extreme weight loss which required a feeding tube be placed. She eventually started eating well on her own again and gaining weight and strength so the feeding tube was removed. Smokey takes a daily medication to treat her hyperthyroidism and will eventually need to switch to a special food due to her early stage kidney disease, (right now she's still eating whatever she wants until she puts on a little more weight). 
Smokey understands that her age may cause many people to just look past her, but she would encourage you to remember the words of her favorite poet, Robert Browning, when he wrote "Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be."
