I am looking to re-home a very special kitty named Charlie. I adopted him last March from a woman who rescued him in Vancouver Washington. His history: Charlie is approximately 3 years old. His original owners lived in Vancouver Washington. They had 4 dogs and several cats. Unfortunately his house caught fire and he was, from what I heard, the only animal that escaped. He managed to navigate the forest, cross a ravine and found his way to a woman's house who just happened to be a cat foster mom. She fed him in the mornings and finally coaxed him into sleeping in her home at night. She was unable to keep him due to other animals in her home. As Portland cat people go, his cute face was posted on FB and that's where I saw him. I took a chance, adopted him and brought him to Portland. Two days after I brought him to my home (at the beginning of the pandemic last March) he got out my front door and ran away for almost three weeks. (That is how I meant Jen, who was kind enough to help me.) After many posters and running after every black cat in town, he miraculously returned back to my house 3 weeks later, however because he didn't know me I had to trap him. Since I built him his own catio. Charlie is a large Main Coon (mix) (13 pounds) mostly black, long hair with a dark brown main and cute tufts of hair coming out of his ears and feet. He's super chill. The only time I have ever heard him hiss was at a raccoon outside his catio. He loves to show off his belly. When I first got him he hid under my bed for 3 weeks, but never showed any signs of aggression and came out to eat. He didn't know how to play, I have since discovered that he LOVES PAPER and peacock feathers. I decided to enrich Charlie's life and take him out in a harness, which he got out of, ran into my neighbors's yard but did come back to my back door 2 hours later when it started to rain. Since then he has been whining to go out, as I have since found out that at his original home he was an indoor/ outdoor kitty. Now to why I am looking to re-home him to (hopefully) his FUR-EVER lasting home. I am from Denver, and had to place my mom into assisted living about a year ago. She has been diagnosed with Alzheimers which appears to be getting substantially worse. After I moved her I got an unusual digestive immune disease that I have been dealing with for over a year. I also just had my second left foot surgery which continues to give me trouble. I have decided to relocate back to Denver to be closer to my mom and guide her care, as she is turning 90 this year. I will be moving into either an apartment or a condo, and definitely know that Charlie would be unhappy without access to the outside. Charlie is an indoor/outdoor cat. I thought he would be happy with a catio, but I don't think that's enough for him. The only issue I can think of with Charlie is that he is a bit of a biter. I think that whoever played with him as a kitten must of used their hands, which I have been trying to work on with him. I think part of this might be due to pent up frustration of not being to go outside. I have also been trying to get Charlie on good food, he tends to like the junky foods, which makes me think he was raised on that too. In my heart of hearts I feel that Charlie needs an indoor/ outdoor situation and a home with other animals around, as well as a lot of attention and love. It makes me sad to have come to this decision, as I have had 4 cats and one dog previously and would never have thought of giving up an animal. I will only give him up to the "right" situation. I want what is best for him, but at this point in my life, I need to do what is right for me too. Charlie is an extremely intelligent and resourceful cat who is good natured and sweet. He needs some help with social play and the biting/nibbling issue. Please let me know if you are interested in a meet and greet with this very special boy. My hope is to find his forever home, since this kitty has had such a challenging life so far.
