Claire was abandoned as a teenage kitten under a local church's shed. When she was caught she was very shy, so we've been working on acclimating her to the indoor kitty lifestyle, and we feel she's now ready to find her own forever home. Now Claire is a playful, cuddly cat who loves to follow you around throughout the day. She likes "helping" you with household chores (she's especially good at hampering bed making) and she's always ready to hop in your lap when you sit down. She loves finding comfy places to sleep and sprawl, and she likes playing with feather toys and balls (she'll carry her toys into whatever room you're in, hoping you'll get the hint and play with her). On lazy weekend mornings she'll bring her toys to bed for you to throw, and she'll fetch them until she's worn out. Claire has also learned to shake for treats, and will happily offer you her paw whenever she sees a treat bag. Claire has been living with other cats and with dogs, and she does great with them. She especially likes one of our dogs (she'll weave between her legs, and rub against her) and she plays nicely with our cats. Because Claire has a very thick, long coat she requires regular brushing (she doesn't love to be brushed but she tolerates it well) and she will need a "sanitary groom" about 4x a year to help her keep clean. She's very tolerant of her biweekly nail trims and she also was great when we put claw caps on her while we were teaching her to use the scratching post. Claire does not bite or scratch if she's afraid; she'll just hide or go limp. Due to COVID she's been exposed to very few people, so she'll be shy at first. It will probably take a few days for her to come out of her shell in a new environment. She has not been around children, and we feel a home with older children or adults only would be the best fit for her. Although Claire has been doing great using her scratching post it took us a few months to train her to not use our furniture (a combination of double sided sticky tape and claw caps helped with her training). A potential new home needs to be aware she'll probably take some time to learn where it is appropriate to scratch in her new home. Also, Claire really likes to give "love nips" when she's getting snuggled. She's learned that people don't appreciate this form of affection, but she's still insulted that we turn down her nips. She does this very rarely now, but will probably need to be re-deterred from this behavior in a new home too. Claire has excellent litter box habits. She has been spayed, tested negative for feline AIDS and leukemia, is up to date on her Rabies and FVRCP vaccines, she's mircochipped, and she's up to date on flea and parasite preventatives.
