Ranger is a super snuggly seven month old baby with special needs looking for his forever home.

Ranger was born with microphthalmia, meaning that his eyes were very small and underdeveloped, so he was completely blind. Based on the recommendation of his vets, Ranger recently had surgery to close his eyelids. Ranger does not let his lack of vision stop him from being an active and happy kitten. He is is filled with curiosity and is adept at mapping his space. He loves to bop around the house and investigate. He is obsessed with the recycling bin. If the dishwasher is open, he will try to climb in. If there is a new item placed in his space, he will check it out right away. He explores the world with his mouth and front paws, so he will often sit on his hind end and feel around with his front feet or lick and mouth things in his path.

Ranger also has some neurological deficits, primarily in the part of brain that controls balance (the cerebellum). He has a unique walk and some difficulty with coordination, but it really doesn’t stop him from leading a full, happy life. After all, he’s never known life any other way! He can’t climb like a “normal” kitty, but this just means he will never get on your countertop and knock everything off!

Ranger has a few other quirks. He prefers potty pads to a litter box, so clean up can be a little more work than a typical kitten. Keeping baby wipes on hand is essential! He can’t groom his private parts like a typical kitten would, so he needs a butt bath about once a week. It’s super quick and easy to do and he’s super good about it. Also, he only eats canned food. He just doesn’t know what to do with kibble!

Ranger is a happy, playful, sweet, silly, good-tempered kitten. He has a unique personality and is sure to make you laugh. He demonstrates excitement by letting his mouth hang open, so he often looks likes he’s smiling when he’s playing or meeting a new person. He has an adorable habit of arranging his blankie with his mouth - or not even making it to his bed and starting to fall asleep sitting up. He has the cutest little voice, which he uses often - different tones for different occasions.

Ranger is one of the sweetest and snuggliest kitties you’ll ever meet. When his foster mom picks him up, he rests his head on her shoulder. When she kisses his face constantly, he eats it up. He loves to be wrapped up in a blanket or just covered up with one. He’s happy to lay next to you or in your lap, but his favorite spot is right on your chest. He’s the best lazy day buddy you could ever ask for!

So what are we looking for in a forever home for Ranger? We’d like his adopter to be within a day’s drive to Portland. Because of his relationship with his foster mom’s dog, we would like Ranger to go to a home with an existing cat-friendly pet. His adopter will need to be someone who is home a lot (even without covid), so someone who works from home or is retired is ideal. Young kids are probably not best for Ranger, but pre-teens or older would be fine. More people to cuddle! Most of all, his adopter will need to be someone who understands that as a special needs kitty, Ranger will be a bit more work than your typical cat, but that life with him will be truly rewarding.

For more information on meeting and adopting this kitty, please fill out a pre-adoption application under "ADOPT" on our website at WWW.CATSCRADLERESCUE.COM. Your information will be forwarded to the foster parent for follow-ups and meeting arrangement.

Adoption fee Includes spay/neuter, microchip, worming and flea treatment, current vaccines, vet exam and free 30-day insurance offer.

Cat's Cradle is an all-volunteer, non-profit foster-home based rescue serving Oregon cats who need new homes. 100% of your adoption fee goes to provide for the medical and physical needs of the cats in our care. We invite you to become a foster parent and experience the great satisfaction of helping a cat or kitten in need.
