Smokey is 3.5 years old and originally came to us when his original owners developed severe allergies to having him for a year. We've had him for 2 years now. He has a sister cat that he gets along with relatively well. They will often play together. He can be very loving and affectionate when he doesn't feel threatened by his surroundings. He usually loves to snuggle and cuddle and will give you lots of attention. He is a very active cat, but will also lounge around on select days. Recently this summer he has become an indoor/outdoor cat. We recently had a new addition to the family (baby) and ever since I became pregnant he has pretty much completely ignored me and wanted nothing to do with me (no pets, no cuddles, no playing with toys when I'm interacting with them etc.). He also expressed his unhappiness and stopped going in the litter box, and we took him to the vet to rule out health issues.  Stress is his main issue. so we started letting him go outside so he could do his business out there. Once the baby arrived and came home he absolutely does not want anything to do with us. He has been aggressive towards the baby once, so we are asking that he does not go to a family that has any small children. Teenagers and older would probably be okay, but ultimately I think he would be happy with adults only, someone who is retired who spends more time at home because he found another house to spend his time at during the day (a neighbor down the street). He will go to her house for the entire day and only come back to our house to eat. Once he eats and maybe takes a little nap then he wants to go back outside again and will go and hang out with the neighbor down the street. He definitely prefers to be over there in that environment. She is not in a position to adopt and give him a home, otherwise that would be a perfect solution. I think he prefers to be in that environment because she is retired (at home a lot), lives by herself, and does not have any other animals around. He seems to like to be the lone kitty with someone who can give him all the attention when he wants it. She doesn't offer him any food but he goes there day after day to spend all his time with her. His sister has tried to follow him to the house and he becomes very territorial and does not want her to go anywhere near the house. Ultimately I think that the best household for him would be a house where he has the option to be indoor/outdoor (he only goes to the bathroom outside at this point), where he is the only animal or maybe another cat, no kids, someone who will interact with him etc. The lady who is down the street that he hangs out with says that he is an absolute joy to be around and quite the gentleman and so vocal and affectionate with her. If you might be interested in potentially giving him a home then please reach out! He can be a very sweet and affectionate cat, but I think that the new addition to the family has caused him to feel threatened, territorial, and stressed which has completely transformed his personality at the house.
