Great Cats for Great Homes

Have a kitty that needs a friend? Josie could be the one for you! The best words to describe Josie are playful, curious, and friendly. She came to me through a friend, and she's the most active cat I've ever cared for. When she first came to me, she spent hours exploring every crevice of my home, even spending a while on top of the washer/dryer (no clue how she got up there). But after getting used to the space, she decided to get comfy on any kind of bag I had laying around (Jansport, insulated backpack for groceries, messenger bag). She also likes resting on my yoga mat.  

She was previously indoor/outdoor and I know she'd like to spend time outside, so if you have a catio or some other relatively enclosed space where she can explore while supervised, she would LOVE that! Perhaps because she’s used to the outdoors, she is SO GOOD in the car (and on the bus!). She doesn’t make a peep, she’s just very curious, peering around everywhere from inside her carrier. I’ve thought about putting her in some kind of carrier that I can fit in my bike crate as well…

Most of the day she's in the window or asleep on the couch, on top of the comforter on my bed, or in her cat tree, but when she has energy, there's no telling how soon she'll tire out. She LOVES the little plastic spring toys, she'll bat one of those around on her own until it gets stuck under a bookcase.  I had to put a broom handle in front of the stove to keep it from going under there every day.

If you play with her personally (i.e. sans toy), or if you touch her belly or pet her too much on the bum, she will deploy the claws and teeth, but she never breaks skin, and she'll even give you a few licks after she nibbles. Her favorite is head and neck scratches, and even though she is a jumper she has never knocked anything off a table or shelf or broken anything.

She's very curious about human food and will always poke around dirty dishes in the sink or anything left out on the stove. Good to get as much energy out of her before bedtime because she gets impatient waiting for her morning food, and she’s known to demand attention anywhere between 3-5am. Thankfully I only need to get her running around for a few minutes and she goes back to bed until 630am when she gets her food.

If you haven’t figured it out, she is super responsive to food. The way I got her to like the cat tree is I started putting her food bowl in there. Treats weren’t enough to get her in there, and she doesn’t care much for catnip spray either.

She does like to scratch furniture and nibble at wires when she wants attention (esp if you're on/around them), so you need to redirect her energy when that happens.   When she had access to my balcony, I wouldn't have to worry about her nibbling wires, scratching the couch, or getting underfoot while cooking or working at my desk because she'd spend all her time out there.

From her energy and curiosity, I expect she'd do well with another young cat she can play with, and one of the best things about her is she is super friendly around new people, and several guests have told me how sweet she is. Josie is a fun, interactive cat and will be a great companion.  Rehoming fee is $60.
