Duchess is a sweet little orange mama cat. However, as a kitten, she was abandoned. She soon found herself struggling to keep a litter of three kittens alive. In order to succeed, she needed to be ever vigilant. Although she found a kind lady who fed her and her kittens, the early experience of being abandoned took a toll on her emotionally. The kind lady’s granddaughter helped to trap her and the kittens and cared for them until they came to Cat’s Cradle. Duchess has made much progress in the time that she has had people to love her. She cuddles when held and enjoys being petted. Despite this, she still wants to hide. Lately, she has learned that she is safe in the open, but she still needs extra reassurances. She needs to go to a home without dogs or young children. She does well with other cats. She demonstrated intense fear when she met a small dog and had been around a large, very sweet dog, whom she stayed away from. She is still a “diamond in the rough”, but a diamond nevertheless. She is only about a year old. .
